Obituary

Dick was born November 3, 1929, at Danbury, CT, to Paul and Evelyn (Lange) Silvernail. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medic in the Korean War on a medical supply ship. He was presented a Red Cross citation for saving a baby's life while he was a Police Force Officer.

Dick was also a representative for Hartford Insurance Company on the West Coast. He was an avid golfer; he loved to travel and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. He served as a greeter and usher for 14 years.

Richard L. "Dick" Silvernail, 88, Sturgis, died Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Department of Affairs at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Dick is survived by his children, Paul Silvernail of Connecticut, Chrissy Wornall, of Santa Ynez, CA, Janis Solomon of Los Angeles, CA, and Brad Julson of Bryan, TX, and their families. His extended family includes Pat Bartholow, Betty Wootten, and Buddy (Char) Bartholow and their sons, Foster and Matt.

A graveside memorial service, with military honors, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery.
