Richard Henry "Dick" Sulzbach, 87, Sturgis, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the VA Black Hills Health Care Center at Fort Meade.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell with Father Paul Dahms officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.

Dick was born June 30, 1924, at Hemingford, NE, to Charles and Laura Elizabeth (Zurcher) Sulzbach. Dick was the eldest son and was raised on a ranch near Alliance, NE.

Dick graduated from Alliance High School and entered military service on July 22, 1944. He served as an army paratrooper in Europe during World War II.

He married Florence Spring on June 22, 1947, in Alliance where they made their home. In 1961, the family moved to Vale, SD, and began to farm. Dick retired in 1981 but continued to help the neighbors.

Dick moved to Sturgis in 2006 following his wife's death. They were married sixty years.

Survivors include his four sons, Steve and Connie Sulzbach, Newell, Mike and Sharon Sulzbach, Sturgis, Joe and Rose Sulzbach, Gillette, and Dan Sulzbach, Sturgis; one daughter, Cindy Sulzbach, Whitewood; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Chuck and Doris Sulzbach, Pullman, WA, Norman and Jean Sulzbach, Riverton, WY, George and Shirley Sulzbach, Crawford, NE, Harold Sulzbach, Spearfish, and Fred Sulzbach, Newell.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; his wife, Florence; and an infant daughter.
