SPEARFISH - Richard Dean Wrightsman, 68, Spearfish, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, after a long courageous battle with prostate cancer at Fort Meade Veteran Affairs Medical Center Hospice unit. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. Richard was born March 25, 1943, in Beatrice, Neb., to Chester Von and Lorraine (Remmers) Wrightsman. Richard married Patricia Ann Arensdorf on Feb. 4, 1967, in Belle Harbor, N.Y. Richard retired in 2002 after 29 years of employment with the Veterans Canteen Service. Richard loved his family and spending time with friends, hunting, going to auctions and playing poker "Happy Dick." Dick especially loved volunteering his time coaching kids in numerous sports that spanned the better part of 30+years. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Patricia; four sons, Aaron (Shannan) Wrightsman of Boulder City, Nev., Brian (Angela) Wrightsman of Brandon and Curt Wrightsman and Daniel (Stacy) Wrightsman, all of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Erica (Todd) Hosselkus of Winchester, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Spencer, Brady, Koite, Aubrey, Jennika, Jaden, Ashtyn, Jocelyn, Jennifer, Carter, Zachary and Gavin; his mother, Lorraine Wrightsman of Wymore, Neb.; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Arensdorf of Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Ken (Trish) Wrightsman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Janice Adams of Blue Springs, Neb., and Julie (Brad) Manes of Lincoln, Neb.; and special friends, Jim Biers, Perle O'Daniel, J.R. Cray and Bill Reed. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Von Wrightsman; father-in-law, Edman Arensdorf; brother-in-law, Frederick Adams; and niece, Neelee Oltmans. Richard requested no donations. A private family service is planned.
