Robert Isaac Boyer, 86, Sturgis, died Sunday, 11/22/2009, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis with Pastor Dwight Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Bob was born December 2, 1922, near Fairpoint, SD, to Irvin and Annie (Jeffers) Boyer. He attended rural school at Fairpoint, SD. He spent his early years on the family ranch, working with his father and younger brother.
On August 15, 1954, Bob was united in marriage to Helen Skuba at Union Center, SD. By this time the Boyer ranch had moved seven miles west of Union Center, where Bob and Helen made their home for a few years.
In the late 1950's they moved to Sturgis and together they operated the Jet Service Station located on west Lazelle Street.
Following their retirement from the station, Bob cared for his wife, Helen, who died August 1, 1989 after a lengthy illness.
Bob donated many hours of service to the Meade County Senior Center delivering meals on wheels to shut-ins and helping with other kitchen chores. He received a citation for his many hours of service to the center.
During his involvement at the center, he met Gladys Hayes and they were married in 1992. They enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dances at the center. They both continued to donate many hours at the center.
Gladys died November 13, 2009.
Survivors include his step children; Bill (Judy) Hayes, Sheridan, WY; Carolyn Tippey, Whitewood, Marlene (John) Lewton, Sturgis, Darlene Daniels, Belle Fourche, and Nancy Bauer, Fargo, ND; 12 step grandchildren, 20 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Hazel Shea, Seattle, WA, Blanche Kellogg, Riverton, WY, Dorothy (Leroy) Pawlowski, Spearfish; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lester, Chester and Howard; five sisters, Ethel Kazebeer, Florence Boyer, Gladys Shourds, Mattie Nelson, Fern Stoddard.
A memorial has been established to the Meade County Senior Center.
