Obituary

Robert Ray Brown was born to Virgil and Evelyn (LaPrade) Brown at Kingfisher Oklahoma on January 17, 1947. He joined two older sisters, Diane and Bonnie. Bob was one of a kind and never knew a stranger. He attended Dalhart High School in Dalhart, Texas where he was an outstanding football player. He also rodeoed and was a formidable bull rider. When riding a bull its horn went all the way through his mouth and out his check. He was fortunate, he fully recovered except for the teeth on the left side of his mouth, and his hair never grew back on the top of his head. A true Texas Cowboy, his left-hand loop was good, and he enjoyed the cowboy life. He was either punchin’ cows or drivin’ truck. He logged over 2.5 million miles. A memorable experience was when he was hauling country cows with a bull rack out of a ranch trail in Wyoming. There was tall scrub brush on both sides of the trail and a blind corner. He was half-way across the tracks when the train hit the bull rack. The bull rack split right in the middle and dropped right there - the front end on one side of the tracks and the rear on the other. Bob’s number was not called that day. Bob married Ruby Jewell and to this union one daughter, Chayla was born. Later he met Helen Pich and they were married March 17, 1980, in Laramie, Wyoming. Helen and Bob had two boys, Travis and Jesse. Bob was very proud of being sober for 44 years. He moved to South Dakota from Amarillo, Texas in 2018 after beginning to suffer from dementia. He spent seven years in a memory care facility in Rapid City, SD. Bob left us on December 14, 2025 at Monument Hospital in Rapid City suffering from Covid and pneumonia. Robert Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Virgil, his sister Bonnie and daughter Chayla. He is survived by his sister Diane Mask, sons Travis (Erin) Brown of Sheridan Wyoming and Jesse (Eime) of Denver Colorado, his grandchildren Tate and Maysa Brown. Niece and nephew Theresa and Flip, great niece and nephews, Hunter, Carson and Amelia.
