Bob was born February 27, 1939, at Kadoka, SD, to Frank and Bernice (Rumsey) Miles. His early years were spent in Wyoming.

The Miles family moved to Newell, SD, in 1946, where Bob attended school. Bob participated in several sports during school but he especially enjoyed competing in basketball with his brother, Richard.

He married Sharon Schipke on September 20, 1957, in Newell.

After graduation, Bob worked for the Homestake Uranium Mine near Hulett, WY, until he was injured in a mining accident. The family moved back to Newell in the fall of 1959 and Bob began working in the hardware department at Bratton's Mercantile Company, in Newell. Bob worked for Shea's Building Center in Deadwood and the U and I Sugar factory in Belle Fourche until it closed.

In 1967, Bob and Sharon owned and operated a farm on Horse Creek where they raised sheep, cattle, and four daughters. In January of 1981, Bob and Sharon moved into Newell where Bob owned and operated Miles Machine and Welding until his retirement in 2006.

Over the years Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and restoring Model T Trucks. Bob shared his love of dogs and history with his family. He was especially interested in Native American history, which he loved sharing with his daughters and grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved sharing his hobbies and interests with them.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, DeAnne Miles, Lori (Mark) Casavan, and Mitzi (Joshua) Fisher; grandchildren, Nathan Gregory Odle, Robert Odle, Amanda (Rich) Ellis, Jeffrey Mutchler, and Mahri Fredericksen; great-grandchildren, Karlyn and Krisyn Odle, Tegan Frederickson, Quinton, Annika, Tripp, and Coltyn Mutchler, and Bodhi Ellis; three sisters, LaVerne Breidenbach, Delores (Don) West, and Lucille (Richard) Youngberg; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his daughter, Shari Jo; brothers, Roger and Richard; and his great-granddaughter, Sage Mutchler.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Newell Christian Fellowship Church in Newell. Inurnment will follow at Hope Cemetery in Newell.

A memorial has been established to the Newell Fire Department.
