Bob was born June 2, 1946, in Mitchell, SD, to Albert and Darleen (Cummings) Meier. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1964 and received his Bachelor's Degree from Liberty University in 1990. Bob married Linda McDaniel on September 3, 1967, in Mitchell, SD. He said many times how he had found his true love with Linda. They were married for 49 years. She was his closest friend and she meant everything to him. Throughout their married life, Bob and Linda lived in Mitchell, SD, Rapid City, SD, Webster, SD, Pierre, SD, Whitewood, SD, and Cheyenne, WY. Bob and Linda were blessed with two children: Michael "Mike" Meier of Nampa, ID, and Melisa (Jim) Meier-Whatton of Parker, CO.

Bob served and worked full time for the South Dakota Army National Guard for thirty-eight years. The first ten years were enlisted, and twenty-eight years were as a commissioned officer. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and retired in 2003. Bob's love of his country was apparent to all that met him, even in his favorite song, which was Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."

Bob loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing. Once he retired, golfing, which was his true passion, became his full time "job." You could often find him on the course in just about any weather condition. He was proud that for many years, he played 200+ rounds of golf in a year. While living in Whitewood, SD, Bob belonged to The Boulder Canyon Country Club in Sturgis and the Belle Fourche Country Club in Belle Fourche.

Robert "Bob" Meier, age 70, passed away on October 2, 2016, at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, WY. He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in 1995 and Squamous Cell Carcinoma in 2014.

Grateful for having shared his life are Bob's wife, Linda; his children, Mike Meier, Nampa, ID, and Melisa (Jim) Meier-Whatton, Parker, CO; granddaughters, Cierra Meier & Marquie Gilbertson, Nampa, ID; sisters, Sharon Krutsch, Karon (Jon) Davis of Sioux Falls, SD, and Deb Henriksen, Spearfish, SD; aunts, Nadine Cummings and Beverly Cummings, Sioux Falls, SD; Jackie Cummings, Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Meier; step-father, Delmer Boyd; and mother, Darleen Meier Boyd.

Memorial services for Bob will be held Friday, October 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, SD. Bob will be inurned at the Black Hills National Cemetery immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers or plants, a memorial has been established.
