Obituary

Robert "Bob" Charles Gould, Sr. was born November 22, 1939, at his grandma's house in Newcastle, WY. The Lord reached down, took his hand, and led him home on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Weston County Manor in Newcastle.
Born to Marion and Gladys (Cullum) Gould, Bob was the 11th of 14 children. He was the first boy after five girls and was just a little spoiled. After a disagreement with his dad, Bob defiantly joined the Marine Corps, thinking his dad would never give the okay. To his surprise, he did, and at the age of 17, Bob left Morrill, NE, on a bus to Denver scared shitless. The Marine Corps, after much discipline, made him the man we all love and remember.
In 1961, Bob met his one and only love, Ada JoAnn "Jody" Rhoades at the Newcastle Drive-In Theatre. They married January 5, 1962, and built their lives together in Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada, and South Dakota. Together they raised four children, Rob (Julie), Lisa (JR), Brian (Julie), and Tia (Brent).
Bob held many jobs throughout his lifetime: a salesman in Nebraska, a truck driver in Gillette, WY, owning and operating Gould Trucking in the 80s, and was named Rookie of the Year with Texas Refinery Corporation in 1987. In 1990, Jody and Bob moved to Elko, NV, where he worked at Independence Mine, and later as a CDL instructor at Great Basin College. In 2002, Bob and Jody moved to their remote cabin in Moon, SD, "The Limestone Hideaway." They spent six years living in God's Country, and loved every minute of it.
A gifted musician, Bob began singing in the Marine Corps and continued throughout his life, entertaining family and friends at every opportunity.
People were drawn to Bob and appreciated his authenticity and no-nonsense approach to life. He made friends easily and was greatly loved.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years; his four children; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Weston County Senior Center. A Marine Corps send-off graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Pastor Jon Anderson for officiating and lending a voice for the service, as well as Toby Rhoades and Scott Buckley for their musical talents.
Donations can be made to the Weston County Senior Center, the Gateway Fellowship Church, or to the Veterans Affairs of South Dakota.
