Obituary

Bob was born November 5, 1917, at Sturgis, SD, to Domnick and Susie (Karrels) Schummer. He grew up on the family farm 18 miles east of Sturgis where he worked until it was sold.

He married Edna Yates in June 1947 and they lived in Sturgis. After the marriage ended, Bob moved to Deadwood where he was employed by the Homestake Gold Mine from 1956 until his retirement as a security guard in December of 1982.

Bob was an avid fisherman and enjoyed walking and vacationing with family and friends in his motorhome. He also enjoyed his antique car collection, John Deere tractors, and model airplanes. He also enjoyed the construction process of the new casinos and businesses that were built when gambling came to Deadwood. Bob enjoyed going to the Four Aces for the lunch buffet and playing the machines. He also liked visiting with staff and customers.

Bob supported and made donations to various charitable organizations.

He was a kind and good hearted man with a ready smile and stories to tell. He was willing to help anyone he could. He had an excellent memory of long ago events and current events. He told his stories to family, visitors and caregivers at the Dorsett Home. He lived during an incredible expanse of history and saw the early cars, airplanes and John Deere tractors that he enjoyed so much.

Bob enjoyed life, friends, family, and lived life to its fullest. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him and loved him.
