Robert was born June 16, 1959, in St. Louis, MO, to Freddie Eugene and Mary Ellen (Kennedy) Hedge.
He moved to the Black Hills in 1978, and moved to the Rochford area in November of 1990. Things he enjoyed doing in his younger years were baseball, camping, fishing, and hunting. Also, he enjoyed shooting guns with family and friends, renovation projects on his home, and property. He enjoyed his visits with friends and family. He loved the vacations that he would take with Brenda. He worked for Homestake Gold Mine in Lead for 18 years; he enjoyed the work and comradery with the other miners. To his friends, he was known as "Just Plain Bob." He began drag racing with his son-in-law, BJ, about 5 years ago. The two of them set up a team together called H&M Racing. He was a proud supporter of St. Jude's Hospital and The Wounded Warriors Foundation.
Robert Eugene Hedge, 59, Rochford, died June 9, 2019, at home in Rochford. He died peacefully from cancer at his home with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda (Unland) Hedge; daughters, Robin (Leonard) Chamberlain, Crystal (Jerod) Maag, and Angie (BJ) Morrison; sister, Barbara (Hank) Petitt; in-laws, Robert (Jean) Unland; brother-in-law, Gary Unland; seven grandchildren, Claryssa, Alex, Ethan, and Brady Chamberlain, Jaiden and Gavin Maag, and Jaxson Morrison; two nieces; two nephews; and his beloved dog, Samson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Rochford Chapel with burial following at the Mt. Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
