Robert A. Miller, 71, Sturgis, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at his home after a courageous battle with leukemia and kidney failure. He has now gone home to be with the Lord.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 9, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis with Pastor Dwight Peterson officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Bob was born October 6, 1937, at Chicago, IL, to Everett and Violet (Olin) Miller. He spent most of his childhood on a farm near Almont, ND. He served in the US Air Force for four years after high school. He eventually spent over 42 years working for the US Government, including 8 years at Black Hills Packing Plant in Rapid City and 21 years at the Sturgis Meat Service. He retired in 2004.
Bob's interests included running, cycling, fishing, and reading. He was a long time member of the First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 23 years, Dorothy Miller, Sturgis; two sons, Jeffrey (Kim) Miller, Newcastle, WA, and Jaread (Amy) Miller, Rapid City; one daughter, Theresa (Carlos) Sandoval, Maui, HI; two brothers, Terry Miller, Washburn, ND, and Joel Miller, Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Virginia Bachler, Seattle, WA, and Marilyn Mertz, Mandan, ND; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Savannah, Lily Katherine, Kolter, Drake, Avery, and Noelle; three stepchildren, several stepgrandchildren including Shauna, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two siblings who died at birth.
A memorial has been established to the Regional Dialysis Center (Spearfish).
