Obituary

Bob was born September 22, 1938, in Elbow Lake, MN, the son of Adrian and Helen Raatz.

Bob had a successful career with Bell Telephone Company as a cable maintenance worker. At Bell, he made many lifelong friends and was a union steward as well as a member of the Communications Workers of America. He spent 35 years with Bell Telephone before retiring in 1992. After retiring, he spent his time on his farm in Epiphany, SD, working on his tractor, growing hay, and caring for his cows and chickens.

He loved to travel and would go on long motorcycle trips. On one of these trips, he went to Yellowstone, WY, with his friends from the telephone company. He joined his son, Daniel, on a trip to Tennessee when he joined the Navy. Bob also rode across the Golden Gate Bridge and through Napa Valley, just to name a few of his many rides. He was an umpire for his children's little league team and moved many times during his life.

Bob was a generous spirit and a man who could always make you laugh. He truly lived his life through simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert Adrian Raatz, 81, of Sturgis, died Sunday, October 27, 2019, in Spearfish.

Bob had 3 children that survive him, Terri, Daniel, and David, and they gave him many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Yvonne; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian; mother, Helen; and sister, Eunice.

A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. November 16, 2019, at the Post 22 American Legion in Rapid City.
