Obituary

Robert "Bob" Gregory Robillard, Albuquerque, NM, and formerly of Sturgis, was born on Staten Island, NY, January 9, 1924, to Charles and Kathleen (Sherwood) Robillard. He died May 11, 2009 in Albuquerque.

After graduating from high school in 1942, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy flight training program. Bob received his Navy wings and was commissioned an Ensign on September 5, 1944. He served on the aircraft carrier, Boxer, in Chinese and Japanese waters.

Bob married Lila Peregrine of Sturgis, SD, on July 15, 1945, in Tijuana, Mexico. Following the war, Bob was a flight instructor in Pensacola, FL, from 1946-1947. He was discharged from the Navy in 1947 as LT (jg), but remained in the Naval reserves for two years. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, in 1951 with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA. In 1952, he and his family moved to Staten Island, NY, and he worked for Western Electric (AT&T), in Kearney, NJ, for thirty years. Bob received a Master of Science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1962 by attending night school. In 1985, when Bob retired, he and Lila moved to South Dakota and lived at Johnson Siding and Sturgis until moving to New Mexico in 2006. Bob was a volunteer member for RSVP, Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, and the Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary. He amassed 1800 hours of volunteer time with RSVP, all in Sturgis, SD.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lila Peregrine Robillard, Albuquerque; daughter, Renee Robillard and husband, Jim Lynch, Albuquerque; son, Robert Robillard and wife, Donna Benz, Bound Brook, NJ; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Knisel, Panama City Beach, FL; Bill and Delores Peregrine, Counsil, ID; Bob and Donna Peregrine, Rapid City, SD; Betty Schumann, Fairmont, MN; Barbara Peregrine, Glenbrook, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris and Shirley; two brothers, Gregory and Charles; two brothers-in-law, Charles Schumann and Howard Peregrine.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Joel Higgins officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
