Bob was born March 10, 1931, in Faulk County, SD. Bob was the fourth of five sons to parents Robert W. Roth and Edith (Burke) Roth. He attended rural school for grades 1-8, and high school in Cresbard, SD, graduating in 1949. He farmed with his father upon completing high school. On May 28, 1951, he married Enid Wilkins in Aberdeen, SD. To this union six children were born.
In 1959, he entered Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, then on to Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL, in 1963, graduating with a Masters in Theology in 1967. Bob served parishes in Seneca, Fulton-Farmer in South Dakota; Marshall, Wisconsin while attending seminary; Belle Fourche-Camp Crook-Buffalo-Harding, Britton-Langford-Pierpont, and Sturgis, SD. From 1983-89, he served as Council Director for the South Dakota Conference of the United Methodist Church, while living in Mitchell. He retired in 1996 to Boulder Canyon, then on to Spearfish, SD.
Bob enjoyed playing amateur baseball, hunting, fishing, family camping, and photography. He helped organize and serve with the Belle Fourche ambulance service, coached youth baseball, served on community boards and agencies, and helped with many church camps.
In the afternoon of March 16, 2019, retired Pastor Robert Junior Roth, 88, passed away, comforted by family members near and far, ending his battle with Parkinson's, to be with his Lord and Savior in eternal peace.
Bob's immediate family includes his wife, Enid; sons, Tom of Kansas City, KS, Jerry (Kay) of Gillette, WY, and Ron of Sturgis, SD; daughters, Joanne (Rex) Vigoren of Spearfish, SD, Janice (Jo Powell) of Spearfish, SD, and Cheryl (James) Honomichl of Volga, SD; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Honomichl; daughter, Janice; two brothers; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with sharing of memories at 6:30 p.m.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. March 22, 2019, at the Sturgis United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche at 2:30 p.m.
