Obituary

Robert "Bob" Roy Waddington was born January 26, 1933, to Robert C. Waddington and Gertrude D. Rada in Lead, SD. The family moved to Hill City in 1939.

Bob started working in the timber at an early age and put himself through high school cutting and hauling posts. On January 28, 1953, he married Deloris Ann Kester. He was drafted into the Army in April 1953 serving at Camp Kobe, Japan and Demarkation Zone, Korea. During this time, his home base was in Colorado Springs, CO, and Leadville, CO. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army in 1961, Bob and his family moved back to Rapid City and to Lead in 1962 where they resided until his death.

Bob loved his family, logging, hunting, and football. He was a practical jokester and added his special touch to all his projects which we referred to as "Hillbillyin Up." If he could only buy something in red, it was immediately painted green. He was a hard-working man who believed in helping his neighbors and fellowmen. If it was mechanical he could fix it! He hired one of the neighbor boys, Sam Millard, to help him in the woods and later his grandsons, Jason and Josh. What he taught them could not be learned in any book. He was a quiet man who spoke volumes by his actions.

Bob, 84, Lead, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Deloris Ann; his daughters, Judy (John) Coffield and Shelly (Bruce) Disbrow; his grandsons, Jason (Christina) Coffield, Joshua (Michelle) Coffield, Cal Coffield, and Christian Disbrow; his great-grandsons, Kevin Coffield, Matthew Curtis, Taylor Coffield, Ryan, Jace, and Hunter Evans, and Cody Coffield; his "Pretty Ladies" granddaughters, Jonna (Larry) Evans, Heather (James) Andrie, and Breanna (Jaz) Terzic; great-granddaughters, Shelby Wisser, Ashlyn and Jayden Coffield, and Maycee Coffield; and "His Baby" great-granddaughter, Camryn Coffield; and his brother, William (Billie) Waddington, San Antonio, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Vernon Gene; brothers, Richard and Gerald; half-brother, Robert; and special friend, Ronald Forrette.

Services will be Saturday, January 6, 2017, at the Lead Assembly of God Church in Lead at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Committal services, with military honors will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Monday, January 8, at 10:30 a.m.
