Obituary

Robert T. "Bob" Barden, 76, Sturgis, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Bob was born October 11, 1933 at Twilight, SD, on the family ranch to Theadore and Sarah (Rogers) Barden. He attended rural country school before moving to Sturgis and working at Dickson Saw Mill. He was drafted and served his country honorably in the US Army. Following his discharge he returned home.

On April 7, 1957 he married "Punky" Secrest at Sturgis.

Bob worked at a radiator repair shop in Rapid City. He also worked for the City of Sturgis. Bob worked as an underground miner at Homestake for 30 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed building knives, black powder shooting and baking blue ribbon winning bread.

Bob was a member of the Rapid City Black Powder Muzzleloaders and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Punky Barden, Sturgis; sons Cody (Wanda) Barden, Lane (Twyla) Barden, all of Whitewood; brothers, Jack Barden, Spearfish, Pat (Janet) Barden, Belle Fourche, Roger (Terry) Barden, Aurora, CO; sisters, Donna (Vic) Greenwaldt, Sturgis, Dianna (Charlie) Loup, Spearfish; also 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

His parents, sons Justin and Jody; also two brothers, Frank and Earl preceded him in death.
