Bob was born October, 22, 1929, on his parent's ranch east of Newell to Albert and Mary (Schultz) Johnson. He was the oldest son and dropped out of school at 13 to become the father figure after his father passed away. He worked various jobs as a ranch hand with all of his income going back to his Mother to help out at home and take care of his siblings.

He was drafted in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He was wounded on Christmas Eve and received a Purple Heart, but continued to go to the front line so he was able to earn points to get back Stateside and help his family. He was discharged in 1953 and worked various jobs until he was offered a job at the Ft Meade VA Hospital where he stayed for 30 plus years working as a Nurse's Aide.

On Dec 6, 1958, he married Jeanne Dailey at Bear Butte Church and two children were born from this union; Albert and Theresa (Terri). In 1974 he married Penny and they adopted two children Bobby and Jenny Walsh and an infant Marya that died in infancy.

Bob lived in Sturgis and Newell until 2002 when he moved to Spearfish where he lived until his death. After retiring from the VA he worked as a ranch hand. He loved his horses and his family. He was a strong supporter of the VFW, but his greatest joy came from watching his children participate in various sports. He wanted everyone to live out their dream.

Bob is survived by four children: Albert (Janet), Senoia, GA and their children John Robert, Heather (Nick Hoyne and baby Lydia), Josh and Brittany; Theresa (Clifford) King, Cheyenne, WY, and their children Shannon (Clifford) Ferree and Bailey, Waylon, Kellie, Cody (Chelsea) and Brooke ; Bobby (Lynn) Johnson, Omaha, NE, and their children Ivan, Mariah, and Max ; and Jenny Casper, Wy, and her children Megan, Jessica, and Jordan; brothers Ralph (Claudia), Larry (Roxy) Jensen, Jim (Karen) Jensen and sisters Kathy (Richard) Ogle, Jerry Ann Hagen, Pat Jensen and numerous nieces and nephews and they were all his favorites ! He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vivian and brother-in-law Bud Hagen.

Robert (Bob) Theodore Johnson, age 86 of Spearfish, SD passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Ft. Meade VA Hospital.

Graveside Services will be held, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.
