Robert M. "Bob" Traynor, 86 years of age, passed away giving himself to the Lord. He has lived in Piedmont 37 years. He expired at the Sturgis Senior Care Center, Massa Unit, on March 2, 2009, with his family at his side.
Bob was born November 30, 1922, in Fort Pierce, FL. He was proud to have been named after his doctor. His childhood was a happy one. After high school, he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp.) based at Miami and the Florida Keys. He served his country joining the U. S. Navy in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater of WWII and was honored to be present at the signing of the treaty that ended WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Bob married Peggy Phipps in Seattle, WA, November 18, 1945. In 1947, he joined the Coast Guard stationed at Port Angeles, WA. He was discharged in 1949. Bob was employed by Boeing, retiring after 31 years in 1980. His love of pines, lakes, and mountains led Bob and Peggy to the Black Hills. Camping, fishing, and boating were his passions in years past. He was a printed Poet and short story writer. His love of reading explains his library of books.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sister, Edna Mae (Bob) Burgess, Ft. Worth, TX; two sons, Robert M. (Krista) Traynor, Jr., Windsor, CO, and Tim Traynor, Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Teresa (Dale) Kent, Midland, TX; four grandchildren, Shawn (Robin) Kent, Midland, TX, Denise (Jeff) Stump, Midland, TX, Andrea (Sam) Fuller, Fort Collins, CO, and Alison (Michael) Sarantokas, Portland, OR; seven great-grandchildren, Marisa, Luke, Ryleigh, Brian, and Henry, Tyler and Connor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward James Traynor; mother, Lillie Traynor; three brothers, Edward, James, and John Traynor; and one sister, Anna Marie.
Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont with Pastor Howie Baird officiating. Committal services will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Piedmont American Legion Post 311.
