Obituary

Hot Springs - On a beautiful May 3rd of 2013, while surrounded by family, Rodney Robert Millar did succumb to heart disease after a long and courageous battle. The son of Fred and Gladys (Jones) Millar, Rodney was born in Martin, SD on June 19, 1940. One of the youngest of 14 children, Rod began his education in Martin, SD until the time when Polio attacked his body, and sent him to Hot Springs Lutheran Hospital for treatment. Through his personal strength Rod did defy some medical prediction and did leave his iron lung and wheel chair to walk again, work and live. Rarely slowed by the incline which life presents, Rod added, Father, Husband, EMT, Fireman, Electrician, Repairman, Hunter, Fisherman and Elder to son, Brother and Friend. Rod loved the time he spent serving his community as an EMT/Fire Fighter, quite possibly as much as he loved fishing and hunting. Rod is survived by two sons, Mark and Mike; one daughter, Michelle; one brother, Paul; three sisters, Louise, Pat, Kathryn and four nieces, Jenny, Jean, Kathy, and Megan. The list goes on and on with more nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rodney and his family are very thankful for those who have helped him fight his battle with his health, assisting his needs, shaping his life to its end. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters. A Memorial Service is planned for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St Lukes Episcopal Church in Hot Spring, SD with Reverend Claude Vershure officiating.
