Roger was born on November 3, 1942, to Arnold and Myrtle (Okerson) Hanson in Garrison, ND. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from the Garrison High School in 1960. After graduation, Roger started with Custom Combining and worked at the missile base in Minot, ND. Roger went to work for Lindteigen Construction. Roger married LaVera Nulph on February 12, 1963, and to that union, three children were born, Randy, Karla, and Rodney. In 1972, Roger moved his family to Lead to work for the Homestake Mining Company and later moved to Deadwood. Roger worked for Homestake until 1998. From 1998 to 2001 he worked for Werner Trucking. In 2001 he moved back to North Dakota to work the family farm and raise cattle. He retired from farming in 2016, and moved to Sturgis. Roger was a member of the Black Hill Dance Club, Pistols and Petticoats, and Square Dance Club in Deadwood. Roger loved spending time with family, farming, raising cattle, dancing, fishing, hunting, camping, and boating.
Roger George Hanson, 77, Sturgis, SD, died September 16, 2020, at the Deadwood Hospital.
Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaVera, Sturgis, SD; sons, Randy (Sue) Hanson, Sturgis, SD, and Rodney (Kelly) Hanson, Lead, SD; and daughter, Karla Atkins, Lead, SD; 12 grandchildren, Broc Hanson, Colton Hanson, Tonia (Clint) Hughes, Tylor Atkins (Crystal Cox), Christopher (Kim) Atkins, Chance Atkins, Devin Atkins (Eilissa Avery), Michael Ordal, Tabitha (Pat) Stofferahn, Peggy (Adam) Lauck, Adam (Amber) Ordal, and Patrick Ordal; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Schock; sisters-in-laws, Lorriane Ehley, Marcella Potter, Debbie (Butch) Jungling; brother-in-law, Joel Darhling; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dale and Vernon; and his sister, Elaine Fueller.
