Hines
April 25, 1938 – December 14, 2020
Roger William Hines was born in Martin, SD to Delbert William and Elma Ellen (Morgan) Hines on April 25, 1938. He was number three of five children. They moved to Washington for a short time and then moved back to South Dakota to Nemo to run a chicken farm. After that they moved around to different areas in South Dakota. He earned his GED after he was married.
Roger worked at Earl's Poultry in Rapid City where his sister, Madelene, and her husband, Bobby, lived. Bobby's niece, Glenna JoAnn Robertson, had moved to Rapid to find a job, where Roger and JoAnn met. They were married in Belle Fourche, SD on September 21, 1958. They lived in Rapid City and Roger began working at Barber's Moving and Storage driving over the road.
In 1967 they moved to Indianapolis, IN and in 1969, moved to Detroit, MI with four of the children. Two more children were born before moving back to South Dakota in 1974. They eventually moved to Nemo, SD in 1975, where two more children were born.
Their daughter, Linda, was born in 1959; son, Rodney "Butch", in 1960; daughter, Rhonda, in 1962; daughter, Teresa, in 1963; daughter, Mary, in 1970; daughter, Glenna "Darlene", in 1971; son, William "Bill", in 1976; and daughter, Angela "Angel", in 1979.
They were members of the Wesleyan Church and Roger served in various positions on the board. They are current members of the LifeSpring Wesleyan Church West.
Roger Hines, 82, died Monday, December 14, 2020 at his home in Nemo.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Linda (Scott) Wimpfheimer, Butch (Tamara), Rhonda Stewart, Teresa (John) Jauch, Mary (Robert) Schaefers, Darlene (Bill) Lanfear, Bill (Stephanie), and Angel (Adam) Lund; brother, Delbert Hines; sister, Rosemary Meyers; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by in death by his parents; and sisters, Maxine and Madeline.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at LifeSpring Wesleyan Church West in Sturgis with Pastor Matt Shulaw officiating.
