IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger Lee
Huddleston
May 21, 1931 – April 20, 2013
Roger Lee "Red" Huddleston, 81, Sturgis, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
Red was born May 21, 1931, in Wasta, SD, to Lee and Mayme Huddleston. The family lived in Elm Springs before moving to the Sturgis area.
After graduating from Sturgis High School, Red married Darla McNenny in 1951. Red worked in the timber and then for Homestake for 30 years as a welder. He retired in 1992. He, Darla, and their family lived in Roubaix, Lead, Deadwood, and Whitewood before moving back to Sturgis in 1997.
He enjoyed woodworking, listening to music, and going for long rides around the hills. His most enjoyment was going to the area restaurants, having coffee, and visiting with people. He had many friends of all ages.
Red is survived by his daughter, Sandy (Darrell) Craig, Spearfish; his son, Rod (Candy) Huddleston, Whitewood; two sisters, Leona (Don) Casteel, Sturgis, and Lois (Blas) Skvicalo, Lead; one brother, Bill (Darleen) Huddleston, Buffalo, WY; and several nieces and nephews.
If you ask Red if there was anything in the world he would like, his reply was, "A few kind words and a smile" and "Have a nice day."
Red had so many medical issues, yet such a great attitude. He always said, "I'm fine." Now that he is in Heaven with Darla, he truly is fine!
Preceding him in death are his wife, Darla Huddleston; two sisters, Myrtle Malen and Betty Dubry; and one brother, Robert "Bud" Huddleston.
Red wanted a special thank you for all his kind, compassionate care given by Dr. Sayler, Dr. Holloway, Dr. Ferrier, Dr. Bryson, Dr. Hogue, and Dr. Tjaden, and their entire medical staff.
