Obituary

Roger Dean Schuelke was born in Sturgis, SD, to Everett Warren and Evelyn Helen (Talley) Schuelke on November 6, 1950. He was the third in what would be six children. He attended local schools and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1968. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1969-70.
In 1972 Roger joined the United State Army. He served in the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Roger and Lori (Collins) were joined together in matrimony on June 10, 1981. Their son Ryan Scott was born July 22, 1985. Roger worked for Moriff's local haul milk service from 1976-90. From 1990-93 drove truck for local and long-haul companies. Roger and his family moved to Newell in 1994 where he worked providing engineering support on the Belle Fourche highway bridge. They returned to Sturgis in 1995. Roger worked as a Carpenter until he retired in 2016.
Roger enjoyed athletics! He played football as a running back and basketball as a guard for Sturgis High School. Roger enjoyed many an outing golfing with his buddies on the "Traveling Team" - playing in local Black Hills' tournaments. They especially enjoyed a golfing trip to Denver during the time of the 1978 U.S. Open at Cherry Hills Country Club! Roger is remembered as always having a smile, a sense of humor, having a "kind heart", and, treating others with respect.
Roger Dean Schuelke, 68, of Sturgis died Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Department of Affairs at Fort Meade Administration and Hospital.
Roger is survived by his son, Ryan; his mother, Lori; sisters, Carolyn Hess, Colleen Klug and Elaine Schuelke; brother, DuWayne; brothers-in-law, Wayne Hess and Bob Klug; nieces Danielle and Kelly Christensen, Leah and Elle; nephews, Michael and Mason Hess, Tyler and TJ Schuelke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Evelyn; brother, Michael; sister Sherrol; and two nieces, Renee' and Michelle Klug.
Committal services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
