Obituary

Rollie was born July 10, 1952, in McLaughlin, SD, the fourth of seven children of Reuben and Ruth (Hinsz) Schlenker. Rollie's childhood was spent fishing, shining shoes, and delivering papers to earn extra money. Throughout his life, his strong work ethic made him a valued family-man, friend, and employee. Rollie worked in construction most of his earlier life and was particularly proud of his time with Robert Short & Sons.
Rollie cherished his two sons, Tyson Dean and Austin J., and was incredibly proud of both. Rollie and Becky (Busby) were married in Sturgis in July 2000, and spent their happy married lives working together throughout the mining industry across most of the Western United States. Rollie's organizational skills made their seven moves in 14 years mostly stress-free, and at every new home, Rollie knew all the neighbors within weeks and became fast friends with many people in the communities. Rollie also created special, magical yards at each of their home, which Becky and his grandchildren loved.
Rollie was also an honored family member of "The Boys of Paha Sapa," a group of men who went to Sturgis Brown high school together and have remained close friends throughout their lives.
Rollie died August 27, 2019, at his home, peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family, best friends, and Soda, his beloved puppy.
Surviving Rollie are his wife, Becky; sons: Tyson (Kristen) of Lincoln, NE, and grandchildren, Josephine, Adelaide, Frederick, and Emerson; and Austin (Courtney) of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Larry; sisters, Vivian Sanders, Shirley Schlenker, Kathy (Ed) Bulau, and Jane (Jerald) Maine; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding Rollie in death were his parents; infant sister, Judy; and nephew, Patrick Sanders.
