Obituary

Ronald Dean Glover, 76, Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the VA Black Hills Health Care Center at Fort Meade, during a short respite stay.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Public committal services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Cemetery in Newell with military honors.

Ron was born August 4, 1939, at Rapid City, SD, to James and Elma (Sampila) Glover. He was raised in Newell, SD, where he attended first through 12th grade. He graduated from Newell High School in 1957.

Following graduation from SDSU in Brookings in March of 1962, he worked on temporary assignment for two years with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. He then served two years in the US Army.

He married Diana Babb at Newell on July 22, 1967. They raised their family on a hill north of Rapid City where they have lived for almost 46 years.

Ron was employed as a fisheries biologist, returning to the Game, Fish and Parks department for 27 years, then 10 years with the US Forest Service in the Black Hills National Forest. Ron's career was dedicated to building 'better homes for trout.'

In 1996, he traveled to Washington, DC, to receive an honor recognizing his distinguished accomplishments in the fisheries industry.

Ron learned to hunt jackrabbits and fish at a young age from his father. His mother wanted him to look neat, particularly his well-groomed hair. His love of hunting and fishing lasted his entire life, and he most enjoyed guiding for the Black Hills Turkey Track Club. He taught his children to hunt and fish and spent many seasons pursuing antelope and deer near the Deers Ears buttes in Butte County.

Ron kept a journal of his game and harvested 199 turkeys; he had looked forward to the 200th turkey.

During his retirement, Ron and Diana traveled extensively and enjoyed time with family and friends. Special trips with grandchildren and a week at Outlaw Ranch each summer are special memories for the family.

Survivors include his wife, Diana, Rapid City; son, John Glover, and his children, Kylie, Kaleb, and Keagan Glover, and their mother, Teresa (Melody) Stolfus, all of Fargo, ND; daughter, Sue (Al Radley) Glover, Bayfield, WI; brother, William (Scarlett) Glover, Olympia, WA, and their children, James, Jason, and Jill. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Bonnie Lange; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Memorials will be given through the South Dakota State University Foundation to support the James Novotny Scholarship Fund and the Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences Scholarship Fund.
