Ronald G. Schaefer, 81, of Sturgis, South Dakota, died at his home on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.

Ronald was born January 9, 1941, at home, outside of Reliance, SD. He was the fourth child born to Arnold D. and Karolina Schaefer. Ronnie grew up on the farm and attended school at South Cloud Country School, outside Reliance, SD.

In 1963 he was drafted into the army and served in Germany. After returning to the States Ronald worked at Mortenson Construction in Presho, SD.

He married Peggy Hughes on March 25, 1972, and they raised three sons: his stepson, Dallas, and their two boys, Doyle and Heath. They moved to Sturgis in 1976 and lived there for the rest of his life.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arnold Jr., Leonard, Kenneth, and Gary; and a sister, Ruth.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Dallas, Doyle, and Heath, five grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters.

Inurnment, with military honors, will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD, Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11:30 a.m.
