Ron was born February 9, 1949, in Yankton, SD, to Chester and Marie (Stensaas) Stuen. He lived on a farm until the age of 4 when he moved
with his family to Sturgis, SD. He was very active in school sports and graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1967. He attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1970- 1971. He graduated from University of Colorado in Boulder, CO, in 1978 with a degree in Recreation Administration.

He met Pat Madsen in Boulder, CO, in 1977 and they married the next year. They moved to Rapid City, SD, in 1983. They started many businesses together over the years including Dakota Tree and Garden, Country Corner and Commercial Tree Care where he worked until his death. They truly cherished working together and spending time with each other.

He was a faithful member of Dove Christian Center. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing cards and most importantly, he loved spending time with his friends and family and investing into his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all.

Ron Stuen, 64, died Friday, May 24, 2013, in Spearfish, SD of natural causes.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat Stuen of Black Hawk, SD; daughter, Jamie Downey of Huntington Beach, CA; sons, Tim (Tina) Stuen, Jason (Jayme) Stuen, and Dave (Tara) Stuen, all of Rapid City, SD; and daughter, Lori (Nick) Kurvink of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren; his mother, Marie Stuen of Sturgis, SD; sisters, Ila Kenoyer of Rapid City, SD, and Carolyn Park of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his father Chester Stuen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Ron Stuen Memorial fund.
