Ronald William Van Patten, 76, Rapid City, SD passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025 after a prolonged illness. Graveside services for Ronald will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
Ron was born June 13, 1949 in Winner to Bill and Reva (McClanahan) Van Patten. He grew up in Winner, graduating from Winner High School in 1967. He enrolled in the National College of Business later that year. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army for service in Vietnam. While there he earned two Bronze Stars, an Air Medal and a Combat infantry Badge, all for meritorious service in combat.
Ron met Patricia Nohr in Rapid City in 1973 and married her that same year. Their daughter Rhonda followed in 1974.
Ron had a long and varied career in the field of finance. He served as vice president and loan officer at American State Bank in Rapid City, a benefit specialist for the South Dakota Retirement System and a financial planner for IDS Financial Services.
He excelled at golf and spent many dedicated hours on the course. As a member of Rapid City Elks 1187, he scored three holes-in-one. He was also an avid bowler, playing in several leagues and enjoyed bowling with friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Patricia and his parents Bill and Reva Van Patten. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda; two brothers, Don and Mike and his sister, Lynn.
