Rose Marie (Bogner) Ekeren, 74, of Deadwood, SD, passed away on April 26, 2011, at Deadwood Regional Hospital. Following her wishes, her body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 2, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Rev. Howard Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the VFW in Deadwood hosted by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Rose was born February 18, 1937, to Anthony and Justina (Schueth) Bogner. She graduated from Yankton (S.D.) High School in 1955. She married Robert Ekeren on March 17, 1957, in Yankton.
Rose worked at Human Services Center in Yankton for many years before managing the Terry Peak Lodge and other various motels in the northern Black Hills after which she retired to spend time with family.
Rose loved cooking/canning, gardening, asparagus hunting, crossword puzzle books, science fiction books, and Eddie Arnold music. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially with her grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert; their children, Russ (Janelle) of Yankton, Terry of Sheridan, WY, Tom of Deadwood, Daniel (Jana) of Yankton, Pam of Sturgis, Lonnie (Lynett) of Garretson, SD, and Barbara of Rapid City, as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Rita Kollars of Atlanta, GA, Julitta Bogner of Ankeny, IA, and Eileen Gust of W. Des Moines, IA.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond and family, and Victor; sister, Martina; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Gust, Kenny Kollars, and Ivo Kollars.
