Obituary

Rose Marie Kovacevich, 84, Lead, died Saturday January 24, 2015, at the Belle Fourche Healthcare in Belle Fourche.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead with Father Leo Hausmann officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Rose was born August 11, 1930, in Lead, SD to Clemente and Rina (Bonato) Zambon. Her father was from Italy and her mother was from the Bonato Ranch, west of Belle Fourche by Aladdin, WY. She graduated from Lead High School in 1948, and was a resident of Lead for over 60 years. On May 4, 1968, Rose married James Joseph Kovacevich in Lead at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She worked 44 years at the Homestake Mining Company starting as a tour guide while still in high school and retiring as the Executive Secretary for the General Manager. In the early 90's they relocated to Whitewood, SD where James built a home in Whitewood Forest Acres.

Rose's life's highlights were: her career with Homestake Mining, building their cabin near Savoy on the road to Roughlock Falls with the many, many memories of fishing nearly every year in Alaska, visits to Canada, Italy, Monte Carlo, Croatia, Panama, Singapore and Hong Kong, and most of all her lifelong love of the Black Hills and Lead.

Rose is survived by her husband James, Belle Fourche; brother, Del (Jean) Zambon, Whitewood; sister-in-law, Marion Zambon, Rapid City; many cousins; nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Connie Haselhorst and Cindy Gillies.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clemente and Rina; brother, Clement Zambon; and sister, Irene (Zambon) Miller.

A memorial has been established to the shriners hospital.
