Obituary

Rose Marie Magelky, 78, Sturgis, died Sunday Feb. 5, 2006, at her home in Sturgis, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with a rosary service beginning at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial follows at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Sturgis.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Rose was born Jan. 21, 1928, at Mott, N.D., to John and Magdalena (Korcorck) Zich. She attended school at Holy Cross High School in Merrill, Wis., and graduated from St. Mary's in New England, N.D.

On Oct. 4, 1945, she married the love of her life, Ralph Magelky, at Mott.

The couple farmed near Regent, N.D. and in 1964, after seven years of hail destroying most of their crops, they sold the farm and purchased the Aladdin Store, Motel and Café, at Aladdin, Wyo. Rose was the postmistress.

In 1966, they moved to Sturgis where Rose was employed at Neugebauer's Jewelry. In 1968, she began her career in food service at Fort Meade Veterans Adminstration Hospital. She retired after 20 years as a registered dietician.

During their retirement, Rose and Ralph enjoyed traveling and spending winters with family and friends. They spent their summers at Hart Ranch, where they made many wonderful friendships.

Rose loved bingo, cards, board games, and dancing. She spent many hours embroidering and crocheting gifts.

Rose and Ralph celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2005.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph, Sturgis; and sons, Robert Magelky and his wife Jean, Pierre, Thomas Magelky and his wife Cindy, Thermopolis, Wyo., and Lee Magelky and his wife Lori, Sturgis, Edward Magelky and his wife Suzanne, Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters Eileen Magelky, Sheridan, Wyo., Ralphine Kruse and her husband Russell, Coal Valley, Ill.; one sister, Sister Agnes Zich SCSC, Merrill, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Joe; one sister, Mary; and one grandson, Thomas Jr.
