IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rose Arlene
Weyrich
November 28, 1921 – July 14, 2012
Rose was born on November 28, 1921, to Carl and Ida Knutson in Ellingson, SD. She joined the family of two boys, Allan and Neil "Buster" Knutson. They lived on a homestead located on the South Dakota/North Dakota border, close to Hettinger. Soon after Rose, the family grew with the births of brothers, Roy and Ander Knutson.
She attended school and graduated from Hettinger High School. As the drought and dust bowl worsened, her family had to pack up and move to the Black Hills. She worked for several families to make money to go to the Normal School in Spearfish to obtain her teaching certificate. Her first teaching position was at the Wolfe Country School located on a section of Weyrich land; this is where she met her soul mate, Victor Weyrich. On April 7, 1942, they made a trip to Broadus, MT, and they joined hands and were on their way to 68 years of marriage. As the years went on, they were joined by three boys and three girls.
She worked side by side with Vic as they ventured through farming, owning a motel, Kamp Kool in Spearfish, on to a used furniture store, then they moved to Whitewood to construct and run a mobile home park and mobile home sales with a repair shop. A few years later, they built a restaurant and gas station. They lived in and around Whitewood for several years before retiring to a home in Sturgis.
Rose loved to raise gardens with vegetables and flowers. She had a green thumb and her flower gardens were admired by many. She was also a good cook and always had a pot of coffee on with lots of fresh baked cookies or cake. She was at her happiest when her kids, family, and friends came to visit.
Rose gave her life to God and for the past few years was a proud member of Fountain Springs Community Church. She loved to see all the young people taking part in the church.
She was the best mother, grandma, sister, and friend a person or child could have. Rose will be missed and losing her leaves a big hole in our hearts that will remind us of her every day.
