Obituary

On Friday, June 28, 2019, RoseMarie Larkins, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 72, in Sturgis, SD.
RoseMarie Roulston was born August 19, 1946, to Ralph Melvin and Donna Roulston in Onamia, MN, as the eldest of 9 siblings.
She married her first love, James Renquist, in 1963. Together they had 2 children, Christina Lewis of Billings, MT, and Jay Renquist, of Sturgis. James passed away in 1969.
Rose was proud of her nearly 20-year career as an over the road, 18-wheeler semi-truck driver. Being one of the pioneering female truck drivers in the industry, she was quick to tell you she could back up semi-trailers in loading chutes better than most of her male counterparts and had a million miles worth of stories to tell. She retired from trucking in 1990 and settled in Sturgis.
Arts and crafts and baking were a major part of Rose's life. She spent many hours making countless paintings, drawings, paracord craft projects, and baked goodies for herself or as gifts for family and friends. Her lasting art, craftworks, and recipes will be cherished by her loved ones forever!
In 1995, she married the love of her life, George Larkins. They operated Courtesy Taxi together and served the Sturgis community for over 10 years. Rose and George spent much of their time together fishing at Orman dam, where their favorite fishing hole was unofficially renamed by the locals and employees there as "George & Rose's Point" for the many nights the couple spent catching walleye and carp together on the cove. George passed away in 2014.
In her later years, she was surprisingly tech-savvy and loved keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook. She made many friends online from around the world and even started a small support group online, "The Whine Page." She brought a group of women together from all corners of the globe and offered them a place to talk about their daily struggles where they wouldn't be judged, but accepted and given friendly advice.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Christina Lewis, of Billings, MT, and son, Jay Renquist of Sturgis. Also cherishing Rose's memory are 5 grandchildren, Justina Lewis-Hansen (Terje), Josh Lewis (Kathy), Samantha Renquist, Casey Renquist (deceased), and Luke Renquist; 5 great-grandchildren, Kristian and Olivia Hansen (Justina and Terje), Edwin and Adalee Lewis (Josh and Kathy), and Fiona Renquist (Luke); and many more extended family members in Wisconsin.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Black Hills National Cemetery, where Rose will be interred with her husband, George, at a later time. Friends and family are invited for a celebration of life reception after the memorial service at the Meade Room in the Sturgis Community Center.
