Rosmaye Laverna Steward, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at her home in Sturgis.
Rosmaye was born in Alva, OK, to Charles Fred and Edna Aline Crouch on September 15, 1937. She spent most of her childhood on the family farm until they moved to Alva when she was 14 years old. She was the oldest of 3 and treasured her younger siblings, Charlene and Charlie.
She met her future husband, Wilbur "Bub" Steward when they were both attending Oklahoma Northwestern College in Alva. They married on August 26, 1955. They both graduated with teaching degrees and eventually relocated to South Dakota, first living in Dupree for 3 years before settling in Sturgis in 1963.
She taught in the Meade County School District eventually becoming the junior high librarian until her retirement in 1989. Rosmaye was always the bookkeeper, organizer, and helpmate for Bub with his many business endeavors. After retiring from teaching, they always enjoyed golfing and snowbirding to Arizona with Bill and Charlene.
Rosmaye was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an avid lifelong learner and instilled a love of learning in her entire family. She loved family gatherings with all her grandchildren home from far away. She loved to cook with her granddaughters, play cards, and always had a crossword puzzle in progress someplace. She was the heart the family gathered around.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Denker, Rapid City, Dena (Darrell Anderson) Steward, Westminster, CO, and Darci (Bruce) Weyrich, Sturgis; five grandchildren, Jennifer Denker, Denver, CO, Jake Denker, Rapid City, Dr. Laura (Dr. Justin) Weyrich-VanderBerg, Adelaide, Australia, Keith Weyrich, Sturgis, and Macki Anderson, Minneapolis; and her beloved sister, Charlene (Bill) Koch, Jay, OK. She is also survived by her dear friend, Ginni Brandt; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bub; her father, Charlie; her mother, Aline; and her brother, Charlie.
Memorial services will be held Monday, March 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jenene Earl officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Heifer International.
