January 15, 1929 – September 25, 2015
Ross F. Jordan, lifetime Meade County Rancher, died peacefully at the SD Human Services Center in Yankton on Friday, September 25, 2015, at the age of 86.
He was born January 15, 1929, in Sturgis, SD, to Frederick and Olga (Hanson) Jordan. Ross rode his horse to attend grade school at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1947. He attended college at SDSU in Brookings, SD, and Laramie College in Laramie, WY.
Ross married Bonny Lou Strong May 22, 1955. Ross and Bonny Lou were blessed with two children, Rick and Judy.
Through his life, Ross was active in SD Stockgrowers, SD Polled Hereford Association, and FHA. He was a 50 year member of the Naja Shriners and a 60 year member of the Masonic Olive Branch Lodge #47. He enjoyed snow skiing, snowmobiling, and traveling with family and friends. Ross was the third generation on his ranch. He spent his life working and improving the land and built a beautiful polled hereford cow herd. He instilled his work ethic in his children and grandchildren and his legacy will continue through them.
Ross is survived by his children, Rick (Chris) Jordan and Judy (Al) Parsons; two grandchildren, Dustin Jordan and Shannon (Kyle) Brown; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac Jordan, Christine Jordan, and Wyatt Brown.
He was proceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Bonny Lou; and his parents, Frederick and Olga Jordan.
Special thanks to the staff at the SD Human Services Center for their care, kindness and support during his time with them.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Henrique Fleming and Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the SD Human Services Center.
