Roy Richard Day Jr.,59, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Fort Meade V.A. Black Hills Health Care Center.
Memorial services were Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Chaplain Bill Zandri officiating. Inurnment will be at the Black
Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.
Roy was born Dec. 27, 1947, at Casper, Wyo., to Roy and Lois (McClintock) Day. He moved to Billings, Mont., at an early age where he attended school.
Roy joined the U.S. Army in 1966, and served his country honorably overseas in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Rapid City and attended Vo Tech for auto mechanics.
Roy married Sally Garland (Keeney) in Rapid City on Feb. 2, 1990.
His daughter, Sara, was his life and they enjoyed a special relationship. Roy enjoyed fishing and hunting. He maintained many friends from the war with whom he had a special bond.
Survivors include his daughter, Sara Halverson, Rapid City; father, Roy Richard Day Sr., Helena, Mont.; mother, Lois Marvin, Rapid City; sister Marcia(Jack) Behrens, Hermosa; one niece; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Albert Marvin and his friend, Buster.
