Russell Scott Ficek, "Runt," 53, of Sturgis, SD, died suddenly of a heart attack Saturday, January 23, 2016, while hunting and enjoying what he loved. He left this crazy world, we call life, and we are sure his mom, Jan, was waiting with open arms.

Russ was born September 16, 1962, to Francis and Jeanette Ficek in Santa Ana, CA. They lived in L.A. and moved to Sturgis in 1968. He married the love of his life, Tina McGinnis, May 31, 1984. From this marriage, two children were born; Miranda, born in October of the same year and three years later in November, Kerri completed the family.

Russ was a jack of all trades. He started working at the newspaper at a young age. He then dabbled in the oil fields, logging, truck driving, and the railroad. He was also in the National Guard. From there, he opened "Sturgis Pawn." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fast cars, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Russ is survived by his wife, Tina Ficek; daughters, Miranda Ficek and Kerri (Curt) Niehaus; grandchildren, Letti and Arian Niehaus; his father, Francis Ficek and friend, Barb; brothers, Jack (Joni) Ficek and Christopher Ficek; and nephews, Ryan (Ali) Ficek, Kobi (Amanda) Ficek, and Christopher Myrick; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Jeanette Ficek; his grandparents; and an aunt.

A time of viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., also at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
