She was born Ruth Deloris Madison, Nov. 19, 1919, to Henry and Mae (Ashton-Smith) in O'Neill, Nebraska. She moved with her family as a small child to SD, and lived in several small communities until 4th grade when the family settled in Sturgis, SD. As she grew older she worked many jobs. She met LeRoy "Swede" Anderson and married him Jan. 25, 1942. Shortly after "Swede" left to join forces with the Army in WWII. Ruth was with him in Louisiana until his deployment. She traveled back to Sturgis with their firstborn son, Marlin. She worked in the Meade Co. courthouse as a clerk and did census work. After choosing to stay at home to raise her children, she did sewing out of her home for many people.

In 1976 she started work for the Meade Co. Planning and Zoning coordinator and later on took on the job herself. She retired in 1993. She guided her children in life through sorrow, heartbreak, laughter and love. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She left behind her sons Marlin and wife Sharilee Anderson, Logandale, NV, Danny Anderson, Sturgis, SD, Noel and wife Mary Pat Anderson, Gillette, WY, daughters Marcia Arneson and Tina Anderson and husband Ron Zimmerman, Rapid City, SD, son-in-law Lonnie Arneson, Elm Springs, SD.
