STURGIS | Ruth Mae Mosser, 97, passed away May 5, 2014. One of four children, she was born June 11, 1916 in Henry County, Missouri, to Fred and Pearl (Barnes) Cook. Ruth's mother passed at the young age of 32 and Ruth and her siblings were raised by their grandmother, Etta (Grandma Cook). She graduated from high school in Clinton, Missouri on May 16, 1935, and later married (William) Wendell Mosser on June 21, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri. Ruth went with her husband to various locations throughout the US, during WWII, as he trained to be stationed in the Pacific Theater. Ruth held various jobs while Wendell was in the military, including that of a phone operator, and probate clerk in Clinton, Missouri. She and Wendell were reunited after the war. In 1953, their son, Michael joined the family. Ruth later took various college courses while Wendell answered the call to ministry. She spent time dedicated to the ministry and helped him at numerous churches in Missouri and Iowa. In 1967 they arrived in South Dakota and spent their years there until retirement. Ruth was a very active member in the Baptist Church Association. She is survived by a son, Michael Mosser, Douglas, WY; granddaughters, Nichole (Kris) Moore and Carly Worster, both of Rapid City; and four great grandchildren, Trevor Moore, Arianna Moore, Taylor Beaton and Aaron Witterdink. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; brothers, Hugh and Paul; sister, Lula; and parents, Pearl and Fred. Visitation will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Sturgis. Services will follow at 1:30 pm, with Rev. O.C. Summers officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Dakota Baptist Convention, PO Box 549, Rapid City, SD 57709.
