Ruth was born on December 18, 1944, to Hyltje "Bill" and Sadie (Oldenkamp) Dykema in Murdo. She grew up there and attended Murdo High School up to her junior year. She then married Gary Royer on September 2, 1961, and to this union three children were born. The family moved to Sundance in 1977, where Gary worked in the oilfields. She and Gary later got a divorce in 1983. For a few years she ran the Log Cabin Café in Sundance, WY, and the Aladdin Café in Aladdin, WY. Ruth moved to Sturgis in 1990, until she made the decision to move to Colorado in 2000 to be closer to family until 2003, when she moved back to Sturgis. She worked as a cook, waitress, and cashier at Tin Lizzie's and the Four Aces in Deadwood until her retirement in 2012.
She enjoyed collecting Christmas themed Budweiser beer steins for many years. Her sister-in-law got her interested in wood burning and the two of them made many items for craft shows. She also liked camping and swimming in Keyhole Lake and Oahe Reservoir.
Ruth is survived by her sons, James and Jeffery, Sturgis; daughter, Sheryl Klocker, Sundance; sister, Berdena Huston, Sturgis, and their families; nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ben, Boyd, and John; and sister, Mary Ehlers.
