Sally Garry, 67, of Whitewood, S.D., passed away August 23, at Hospice House in Rapid City, S.D.
Sally was born January 2, 1945, in Aberdeen, S.D. to Francis "Red" and Georgia (Gould) Halloran. She lived in Pierre, S.D. until she was 13 and then moved to Sturgis S.D. where she graduated high school in 1962. She attended Black Hills State College from 1962-1966, obtaining a B.S. in Education. She taught seventh and eighth grade English in Deadwood, S.D. until 1968. She then began working at KBHB radio in Sturgis where she met many of her lifelong friends. It was also during this time that she met her soul mate, Joe Garry. Joe and Sally were married on March 9, 1973, in Sturgis. Sally left KBHB in 1976 and stayed at home for a few years with her children. She later went to work at the V.A. at Fort Meade as Patient Services Manager. She ended up making a career of it before retiring in February of 2007, and her knowledge, skill and compassion for her job never ceased to astonish people. Sally's infectious laughter and beautiful spirit will be remembered by every person whose life she touched.
Sally is survived by her loving husband, Joe; three children, Christopher (Shauna) Sperle (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Shane (Michelle) Garry (Whitewood, S.D.), and Kiera (Dan) Marick (Whitewood, S.D); grandchildren Ashton, Sierra, and Ireland Sperle, Breanna and Tessa Garry, and Savannah, Zachary and Brittnie Marick; her sister Joan (Dan) Ramsey; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
