IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel Lloyde
Bennett
May 30, 1925 – November 20, 2020
Samuel Bennett was born May 30, 1925, in Highmore, SD, to Wiley H. and Katherine (Guthmiller) Bennett.
Samuel died at the Department of Veteran's Affairs Fort Meade VA hospital on November 20th, 2020.
When Samuel was young, he moved several times but spent most of his childhood at a house in a draw by the Barry flats. There he and his siblings grew up going through the dirty thirties.
In 1948, he met the love of his life, Loretta at a country dance and 2 years later on October 2nd, 1950, they were married. They spent the next 67+ years together until Loretta's death on May 26th, 2018. After Sam and Loretta were married, they lived on the Chaney place. While there 3 children were born: Allan, Bruce and Sharry. In 1957, they moved to a ranch near Watauga, SD, where they lived until 1962. While living there Sandra joined the family. In 1962, because of selenium poisoning on the ranch they moved to the 10 acres west of Sturgis where he was living till his death. The first 3 years he and Loretta lived in a little trailer that was 8 x 30 with 5 children as Twyla had joined the family by then---(they were living in a tiny house before they were popular and didn't even know it.) In 1965, they moved into the big house. The family continued to grow as Brandon joined the family then Ladean, Lorrell, and Rose were joined to the family.
In 1968, Sam began a Bible study with Jehovah's Witnesses and in November 1971, he was Baptized. From that time forward until his death he served his God, Jehovah. As many of you know Sam was a storyteller. All you had to do was ask him a question or make a comment and he had a story he could tell. Sam was also a musician and loved to make music. His prized instrument was a banjo he won in a poker game while in Guam and more recently it was a ukulele which he had tuned like a banjo. Oh, how he loved to play it---
Due to the current circumstances there will be no services. The family would like to thank all who have given their support during this time of sorrow.
