Sandra Kaye Tritsch, 50, Sturgis, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Monday May 22, 2006, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Pastor Roger Crowhurst officiating. Burial followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Sandra "Sandy" K. (Cavender) Tritsch was born October 2, 1955, at Owensboro, Ky., to Truman and Barbara (Miller) Cavender. When she was young, her family lived in many communities in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.

In 1971, her family moved to Casper, Wyo., Sandy graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in 1973. After graduation, she worked as a police dispatcher and emergency medical technician for much of the period until 1987.

Sandy married her husband May 6, 1988, in Colorado Springs, Colo. While in Colorado Springs, their son was born in 1989. Sandy and her little family moved multiple times with Ken's work for the U.S. Government. Their daughter was born in 1990, in Cheyenne, Wyo. Sandy and the family moved to Sturgis, in December 1996.

Sandy was a kind and caring person, always willing to help with community and youth-oriented causes. She was a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H leader, and helped with Boy Scouts. She was a member and officer in the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. She was also a volunteer in the local elementary schools, helping students learn to read. She also participated in many school booster club activities.

Sandy was a devoted wife and mother, attending to the many details that ensured a healthy, happy, and loving family. She was a very social person and loved spending time with family and friends. She also loved animals and enjoyed sharing this with her family. She loved music and spent many hours singing to her children when they were young. She was especially proud when her children also developed a passion for music.

Survivors include her husband, one son,one daughter,her parents, one brother, two sisters; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, D.M. "Shorty" and Lois Miller and her paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Elva Cavender.
