Gillette resident Sheila Marie Steele, 54, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, of cancer at her home with family and her dogs by her side.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Steele is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Pisgah cemetery with burial to follow. All are welcome to join.

She was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Nov. 3, 1964, to Beverly and Wes Steele and was diagnosed with elephantiasis. This required many visits to the Shriners Hospital in Twin Cities, Minnesota.

She attended school in Rapid City before moving to Gillette, where she married Dale Lawrence. The couple was later divorced.

She was a very giving and loving soul. She took people and animals alike into her life to help them find their way in the world. She was a very free spirit and loved to visit and spend time with her friends. She loved to hear and tell stories of past times.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Mathew McGruder; children, Heather Steele, Melissa Lawrence and Nicholas Steele McGruder; six grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Guettler, Mickey Bradshaw and Sherry Tuttle; brother, Kenneth Steele; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Beverly (Anderson) and Wesley Steele; her sister, Pamela Guettler; a grandson, Jackson Crahan; and grandparents, Minnie Steele, Vernon and Esther Anderson.
