IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheryl J.
Murray
July 6, 1953 – March 29, 2016
Sheryl J. Murray was born July 6, 1953, at Rapid City, SD, to Raymond and Dorthy (Swenson) Murray. She was raised on the family farm in Vale, SD; she helped her parents and five siblings on the farm. Sheryl was proud of her roots and to be known as a farm girl from South Dakota. She was intrigued by her family's origin as well. She spent countless hours tracking decades of family genealogy. In addition, Sheryl loved to crochet, knit, and collect fine china.
Upon graduating from Sturgis Brown High in 1971, she took business courses at National College of Business in Rapid City, SD, until the Rapid City flood in 1972. Sher started her career working for HUD setting up temporary housing for the flood victims. When HUD was shutting down after the flood, Sheryl was encouraged to apply for a position within the FBI due to her extraordinary work ethics and performance. However, due to the 1975 Oglala shooting death of her friend, Ronald A. Williams, her application was sealed and was not reviewed until a few years later. Sheryl then moved to Kentucky and started a career in the banking industry followed by a move to Florida where she worked in the bank as well. Years later, Sheryl was very surprised to receive a call regarding her application to the FBI and a job offer after many interviews. She was excited to take a job with the FBI and moved to Alexandria, VA, where she worked as a transcriptionist for high ranking government officials, including the president of the United States. While working for the FBI, she received an offer from the President of the Internal Revenue Service's Federal Credit Union, now known as Fed Choice Credit Union, which would be her final career move. She held this position for the past thirty six years. Sheryl had a passion for accounting. She was well known for her precise, accuracy and detail to work. She loved the mystery of finding financial errors as if they were puzzles. Sheryl not only found work at a business at which she devoted her life to but also a position that she truly loved and cherished. Her home in Alexandra was a perfect location for Sheryl because she was fascinated with the history of the United States, our governmental institution, and monuments of the area.
Sheryl, 62, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2016, at her home in Alexandra, Virginia.
