Shirley L. Aronson, 88, Spearfish, SD passed away Friday, December 13, 2024 at Rolling Hills Healthcare in Belle Fourche.  Funeral Services for Shirley will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, December 20, at Countryside Church in Spearfish.  Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service.

Shirley Lucille (Smith) Aronson was born February 11, 1936 to Clarence and Halya (Ekstrom) Smith in Newell.  She was the youngest of seven children. She raised in Newell, where she graduated from Newell High School in 1954.She then attended Black Hills Teachers College.  She met Andrew Aronson and they were married on December 22, 1956 in Newell.  She later quit college to raise a family.  Shirley returned to school, earning a Masters Degree in Journalism from the University of Wyoming.  She then worked in university libraries.

She enjoyed working on genealogy, always ready to add grandchildren and great-grandchildren to her records.

Shirley and Andy were blessed with three children who brought immense joy to their lives. Their first daughter, Teresa Meek, was born in 1959, followed by Lucy Goodall in 1960, and Andrew Aronson Jr. in 1962. Shirley's family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in their accomplishments and the lives they built. Shirley loved her seven grandsons and one granddaughter.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded on death by her parents; husband, Andrew and while being the youngest of seven siblings, she was also the last of the Smith family.
