Shirley Jean Hise, 82, Sturgis, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the family present from 5p.m. until 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. Martin's Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Burial follows at the St. Aloysius Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Shirley was born April 23, 1929 at Bonilla, SD. Her parents were Joe and Lucille (Newman) Davis. She grew up on a ranch near Reva, SD, and attended country school. The family moved to Belle Fourche and Shirley married Leonard Hise at Belle Fourche in 1947.

Shirley lived in Washington, Idaho, Fruitdale and in 1959 she settled in Sturgis. She worked at Ben Franklin for many years. After the store closed she worked for McKay Drug for about a year. She worked for Allison Publishing for a short time and also for SD Job Service in the Green Thumb Project. She worked will into her 70's before retiring.

She liked to hunt, fish, plant and tend her abundant flower gardens and yardwork. She raised cockatiels, finchs and parakeets. She also enjoyed cross stitch, crocheting and arranging flowers. She loved being with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her sons, Claude (Laurie) Hise, Lander, WY, Bruce (Gail) Hise, Wayne (Kris) Hise, Huntington Beach, CA, Rory Hise, Spearfish, Jamey (Lori) Hise, Fort Morgan, CO; daughters, Caddie (Gary) Nelson, Lander, WY, Mary Ann (Jerry) Remer, Sturgis, Candy (Larry) Morrell, Sturgis, Peggy (Steve) Geyer, Sturgis; special friend, John Henry, Sturgis; brothers, Albert (Vonnie) Davis, Casper, WY, Donald Davis, Buffalo, SD, Wesley Davis, Belle Fourche, Byron (Barb) Davis, Colony, WY, Ronald (Shellie) Davis, Spearfish, SD, Daniel (Delphine) Davis, Belle Fourche; sisters, Florence Stedillie, Belle Fourche, Joan (Cliff) Anderson, Spearfish, Marcia (Bob) Richards, Spearfish, Sandra Oster, Belle Fourche; also 25 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one great grandson.
