Obituary

Shirley Esther Kammerer, Age 87, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016, in Rapid City, SD.

Shirley Esther Hale was born on June 4, 1929, in Sturgis, SD to Louis Bryant "Brick"and Alyce (Fruth) Hale. She grew up in Sturgis, SD and attended St. Martin's Academy for eight years and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1947. She attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.

Shirley was employed at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Ft. Meade, SD, as a medical stenographer for four years.

Shirley's interests were varied. Faith, family and friends were her special loves.

She married Alfred "Lefty" Kammerer, a cattle rancher in Elk Creek Valley, on December 27, 1952, in Sturgis, SD by Msgr. Leo S. Feurerbach. They were blessed with five children - two sons, Eliot and Brian, and three daughters, Jan (Sommars), Mary Kay (Lemmel) and Lisa; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one Sister-in-Law, Pauline Guffey; numerous nieces, nephews and special cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, "Lefty", and her son, Brian.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Rosary will be offered at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Martin's Chapel in Sturgis, SD.

A memorial has been established to St. Martin's Chapel and St. Aloysius Cemetery.
