Obituary

Shirley Nohava was born September 29, 1942, to Evelyn and Edward Philipsen. She was the oldest of five siblings, Sharon, Roy, Betty, and Patty, who she cherished deeply. Shirley married Lloyd and together they had Allen, Randy, and Sandy. Shirley and Lloyd had many business ventures in Sturgis. The Bootlegger, Phillips 66 gas, South Pine Motel, most memorable to her grandchildren was Nohava's Gardens. There she watched over all of the fun. Whether it was petting the tame little red hen or planting beautiful flowers. She also worked in the kitchen at Ft. Meade VA. For many years she watched over numerous children in her daycare and before retiring she cared for the residents in Black Hills Special Services. Shirley was a wonderful care giver to everyone but especially her family. Her entire life was spent making sure her family had what they needed and were well taken care of. Never was there a day that she wasn't calling someone to make sure all of their endeavors were in order.

In Shirley's last few years, she lived at Heritage Acres. She made many wonderful friends that she adored dearly. She was thankful for all of the conversations, music and games they all shared.

Shirley passed away March 11, 2022, surrounded by family.

She left behind her son, Randy (Brenda) Nohava; sisters, Sharon Vinson, Betty (Doug) Voorhees, and Patty Davis; brother, Roy Philipsen; nine grandchildren, Richard, Charlene, Wyatt, Desarae, Shyla, Coye, Jocelyn, Holly, and Beth; and eleven great-grandchildren, Avery, Luke, Kaeden, Caleb, Lillyanrose, Teagan, Ariah, Huntley, Rane, Trigg, and Kinley; two great-great grandchildren, Hazel, and Bailey.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Edward; and her two children, Allen, and Sandy.

Shirley requested there be no funeral. There will be a private burial for family.
