It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of a great man, Silas C. Grinstead III of Sturgis.
Silas was born October 20, 1946, in Mooresville, IN, the son of Silas Carl Grinstead, Jr., and Clara L. Grinstead. He moved to Lake Worth, FL, in 1969 where he worked as a General Contractor. Silas moved to Sturgis, SD, in 1994. He resided in Sturgis for the remainder of his life where he was the owner/operator of Days End Campground. He was married to Debbie Hurt, Jill McKinley, and Lorna Wilbanks.
His hobbies included coaching and watching his grandchildren play sports, woodworking, reading books, and of course riding his Harley Davidson. He looked forward to seeing all of his friends every year at the Sturgis Rally. Silas was a great,great man and an amazing father, son, and brother. He had in incredible effect on so many people's lives. He cast a huge shadow. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his mother, Clara L. Grinstead; sister, Janice Grinstead; son, Silas C. Grinstead IV; daughter, Gena Rodman; son, Greg Hare; stepson, William McKenzie; stepdaughter, Sarah McKenzie; 15 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ron Ledford officiating.
